Not sure if I agree with the review that says Etsy is an unknown site. As an Etsy seller of functional pottery that also does art shows, I have found a relatively high percentage of people who are familiar with the site. Etsy has been my first venture into on-line selling and I have found the Etsy community to be very helpful. There is a huge variety of handmade items available ranging from DIY crafts to fine art. If there is a downside to Etsy, it is the volume of items available and the effort it takes both for sellers to stay visible to the buying public and the time it takes consumers to find/choose items. On the other hand, communication that occurs between the buyer and seller often serves to make the transaction seem very personal. To me this makes buying on Etsy a different type of on-line purchase experience both as a buyer and a seller.
