A funny website filled with funny videos, funny pics, articles and a whole bunch of other funny stuff. Cracked.com, celebrating 50 years of humor and blowing other so called funny websites out of the water.
Cracked is backed by a company with great writers on staff and a large, supportive community. I have been a reader for almost a year now, but I've been considering expanding to other comedy sites. The big problem I have with Cracked is that they are preachy as all get out, and they spend more time spouting their own political opinions with a tone of disgust instead of humor.
I'm not trying to say that Cracked can't use political humor, but they could make the fact that they have an agenda at least a little less obvious. The writers at Cracked are the kind of people who would come up with incredibly creative topics, only to dilute their impact with a thousand Batman references and unnecessarily personal stabs at groups they do not approve of. What I am trying to say is that Cracked articles are written to make a point not with jokes, but with actual arguments they try to pass off as comedy with a wisecrack here and there. While there is nothing "wrong" with this, it makes Cracked harder to see as a comedy site.
For example, say you are a woman who had a hard day at work and you need to unwind. You've been on Cracked before and have enjoyed articles like "I Want to Put My Book Inside You: A Message to New Kindles". You visit the site and see an article called "5 Reasons Women Are As Shallow As Men (According to Science)". How do you think that would influence your opinion of Cracked?
To be fair, I don't want to present Cracked as misogynistic or bigoted. In fact, they pick on everyone a bit. Its just that they go as far as to CITE SOURCES in comedy, a genre that has a reputation for not being taken seriously.
Cracked has the capacity to make you laugh and think, but I don't think it will reach its full potential because I feel that they somehow expect you to eventually adapt to their doctrine.
I recommend Cracked if you are intelligent enough to ignore authors who are invested in changing you. Just read articles that make. You. Laugh.
