Program Downloads and Update Notifications All In One Site: I highly recommend FileForum (FF) to anyone who does a lot of downloading and wants to keep track of updates.
FF does not and is not going to list every single one of your installed programs, that's not the purpose of this site, but if you are looking for a site that will notify you of updates of your most used programs then this site is for you.
Surf on over to http://fileforum.betanews.com then click the "Join Betanews" link; registration is quick, simple, painless and they do not ask for any personal information. Then search FF for your installed programs or search first and register later. I'm confident that you will be pleasantly surprised at how many on your installed programs they list.
Then when you find your program navigate to its page download the most current version and add it to your "Watched List" then every time your program is updated or upgraded you will be notified by email or RSS, or both, as you prefer. To get the RSS feed of the programs on your "Watched List", while logged in, click on the "Edit Watched List" on the left side of every page and at the top of your "Watched List" there is a link for the RSS feed.
FF if not perfect but it does what it does very well. Its updates are timelier than any other site I've seen; it's a matter of preference, but I highly recommend FF.
Did I mention the fact that it's free? It's free. And if you're looking for a site that will give you recommendations on the best of the best Freeware equivalents, in any category you can think of, then surf on over to Gizmo's Freeware - http://fileforum.betanews.com. I can't mention one without the other.
Sorry if this sounds like a promo; it's not. I am in no way associated with any of the sites I recommend. I've been using these sites for years and find them to be highly useful. The two mentioned here are among my most used.
I don't write many reviews; I don't have the time for it, but I think so highly of these sites that I made the time.
