The FACT Act Amendment entitles each person to 1 free copy of his/her credit report once per year. Note - this does not contain your credit score. That is extra.

This is the only place you can safely get your credit report from the credit bureaus. By law, these have to offer free credit reports once a year, and they do just that. However, you will have to pay for your score.

This is the place to go if you're looking for your free annual credit report. Going to the individual credit agencies will subject you to endless upselling for credit services.

Annual Credit Report Offers Free Look at Your Credit History: I like this site and have used it in the past to review my credit report. It's very quick and easy, although some of the questions they ask to verify your identity are pretty obscure and I was worried that if I answered wrong I would be shut out of the system. The site will give you a credit report created by one of the three leading credit bureaus; Equifax, Transunion or Experian. These are almost the same reports that lenders look at so it is a good thing to review before applying for a loan so you can be aware of any potential problems. I was very surprised to see credit cards that I thought I had closed years ago. The only downside is that most lenders rely on a credit score for their decision, and you can buy access to your score, but the site doesn't tell you this important fact on the first page. Instead you have to go through the process of submitting all of your personal information and then are told later that the score availability will cost a nominal fee. I would rather be told up fron so that I don't feel like I've been bait \u0026 switched.
