If You're Flying or Waiting, you'll love this site: I have used flightaware.com for a long time. The great thing about this site is you can track both airline flight and private flights using the IFR system in the continental US! (If you don't know what I'm talking about here, you probably won't find it usable!) Whether you're checking the status of a flight (on-time or delayed) or where a flight is at any given moment, the information on flightaware.com is accurate and constantly updated. You can figure when you need to head to the airport to take a flight or meet a flight, or follow the progress of a loved one as they cross the country. And, for pilots, the site also has some excellent flight planning tools,
The only negative is that it is sometimes hard to find some of the information you want. Its probably there somewhere, but sometimes navigation is a bit difficult. Also, flights outside the continental US are using a certain amount of "guesswork" to follow, but I find that to generally be pretty accurate and still very usable.
Overall, this is a great site. I've tracked everything from commercial flights friends are on to my brother flying his Cessna up for a visit. In my opinion you can't beat it!
FlightAware Flight Tracker Great for Aviation Professionals and Travelers: From a frequent flier perspective, FlightAware is very useful from the stand point of both the traveler and the person on the ground waiting to pick them up at the airport. Click on any flight in the US, (does not work for international flights) and you can see exactly where the flight is enroute to its destination. You can also see what sort of weather the flight is encountering. Weather maps, charts, airport information, and aviation news is also helpful for commercial and private plane operators. Services are all provided free of charge. The only negative I can find is the merchandise they sell is pretty bland compared to the interesting service that they provide.
