MyRegistry is a good idea, but is very cluttered and a bit confusing. Another site similar to myregistry is www.asimplerweddingregistry.com. Very similar in a lot of ways, but it has a couple of nice additional features. The site asks the guests to enter their mailing address and name when they check off a gift in the registry. This then allow the bride and groom to have a complete list of guests, gifts, and mailing addresses that they can print at the end to make the thank you card writing process much simpler. A Simpler Wedding Registry also allows guests to compare prices on items easily at several large retailers (Walmart, Target, Macys, etc...). Definitely worth checking out.
Very easy to use! Not sure why everyone had so much trouble... it took me about ten minutes to set up an account. My only gripe is that if you are not registering at one of their "preferred sites": Target, Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, and Amazon it is a bit of a pain to add items from different websites or registries. Just takes a little longer to register outside items because you have to manually enter the price and item details. We are using MyRegistry.com and Bed Bath and Beyond for our wedding registry. If our guests are not computer savvy they can always walk into Crate and Barrel or Target and buy in person!
I don't know -- I kinda liked using MyRegistry.com. Of course my fiance Paul and I were registered at Williams Sonoma too and would have liked to sync the two but this was not as big a deal. We are adamant about supporting artisan products from Etsy and Gaiam. MyRegistry was a favorable experience for us since it allowed us to add items from more than one store and we were able to send out free e-nouncements (save the trees!). I know some of our guests had trouble purchasing items and, yes, I was frustrated initially but I was not too surprised considering the ones who did were our aunts and uncles who are not too computer savvy. (Funny story actually -my fiance's uncle was using a computer from 1995 and kept complaining about not being able to view our gift list properly- oy ve! I kept complaining to MyRegistry until Paul and I realized that his uncle was using an archaic system :) ). Regardless, we didn't have too many problems and their customer care marked items purchased for those guests who were confused. How many gifts did you have on your registry? We included around 50 so perhaps that was easier to maintain? Sorry to hear about your experience though since weddings are so stressful already and to worry about straightening out kinks here and there just adds to the frenzy . I guess the online registry isn't for everyone but MyRegistry.com proved very convenient and easy for us. This is why I give their service four stars -- helped us out a lot!
This site may be convenient for people creating registries, but it's a terrible experience for the purchasers. I would rather be directed to a registry hosted by the store/site than this ridiculous compromise. A post-it note on my computer screen would have been more functional, and it wouldn't have screwed up my browser window size in the process. This site does nothing but point you in the general direction of a site where you can actually make a purchase, doesn't prefill any forms, give you shipping address, notice that you've bought something....nothing! And for my efforts, I'm left with a smushed up browser window. Great.
